Capacity: 4 × 7,800 m³ mounded tanks (~31,200 m³ / ~15,000 MT LPG)
Overview
The Dar es Salaam LPG Mounded Storage and Filling Terminal is set to become one of the most advanced and safest LPG facilities in East Africa. Designed to international standards, the terminal integrates large-scale mounded storage, automated filling, and bulk handling systems. Upon completion, it will serve as a benchmark project in Tanzania’s LPG sector, strengthening domestic supply security while positioning Dar es Salaam as a regional export hub.
Scope
- Storage: Four ASME-certified 7,800 m³ horizontal mounded vessels (total ~15,000 MT).
- Mound Design: Engineered earthen mound with NFPA 58 fire protection and optimised load distribution.
- Product Handling: High-capacity truck unloading, automated cylinder filling carousels, and dedicated bulk loading arms.
- Fire Protection: Integrated foam and dry chemical system with modular firewater pump house and storage tank.
- Control & Safety: Full SCADA automation, tank gauging, leak detection, high-level alarms, and ESD integration.
- Environmental Systems: Gas detection, ventilation for hazardous zones, and spill containment.
Current Status
- Civil and mechanical design finalised.
- Long-lead equipment procurement in final negotiations.
- Geotechnical investigations completed and mound foundation design approved.
- Contractor mobilisation scheduled for Q3 2025, with civil works to commence immediately after site handover.
Strategic Impact
This terminal will secure Tanzania’s LPG supply chain, reduce reliance on imports via smaller terminals, and enhance regional energy trade by supporting bulk exports to neighbouring countries. It reinforces Oilcom’s leadership in clean energy infrastructure and aligns with Tanzania’s national energy transition strategy.
