Status: Pre-construction (Detailed FEED completed)
Planned Completion: 2027
Capacity: 254,000 m³ multi-product petroleum terminal

Project Overview

The Kampala Storage Terminal (KST) will be Uganda’s largest inland petroleum storage facility. Designed to international engineering and safety standards, KST will strengthen national fuel security, optimize inland distribution, and support the Great Lakes regional market.

Technical Highlights

  • Tankage: 254,000 m³ total capacity in API 650 vertical tanks for PMS, AGO, Jet A-1, ethanol, biodiesel, and kerosene.
  • Loading & Unloading: Automated bottom-loading gantries with vapor recovery, multi-bay simultaneous loading, and pipeline interface connectivity.
  • Fire Protection: NFPA-compliant firefighting system with foam pourers, hydrants, and centralized firewater storage.
  • Instrumentation & Control: SCADA-based terminal management with integrated metering, tank gauging, and emergency shutdown systems.
  • Ancillary Facilities: Control building, workshop, lab, administration block, welfare amenities, and full road network.

Strategic Impact

KST will transform Uganda’s petroleum logistics by reducing reliance on cross-border storage, enhancing national reserves, and stabilizing supply and pricing. Positioned as a regional hub for the Great Lakes, the terminal will also attract third-party storage (hospitality business) from neighbouring countries, reinforcing Uganda’s role in regional energy security.
