Status: Under Construction | Planned Completion: Q4 2025
Capacity Additions: 2 × 500 m³ Jet A1 tanks, 1 × 350 m³ fire water tank
Overview
The Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) Aviation Depot Upgrade is a strategic infrastructure enhancement supporting Tanzania’s fast-growing aviation sector. The project increases jet fuel storage capacity while integrating international-standard safety and quality systems to meet the demands of modern aviation operations.
Scope
- Storage Tanks: Two 500 m³ Jet A1 tanks (API 650) with floating suction systems; one 350 m³ fire water tank with dual pumps for redundancy.
- Pumping & Filtration: Aviation-grade pumps with FAUDI filter water separators for receiving and delivery lines, ensuring DEF STAN 91-091 and ASTM D1655 compliance.
- Fire Protection: NFPA-standard firefighting system with hydrants, foam monitors, and automated deluge.
- Loading/Unloading: Integrated receipt from hydrant lines and road tankers, plus hydrant refueling points for aircraft.
- Safety & Control: Scully grounding/overfill protection, automatic tank gauging, and centralized SCADA monitoring.
- Civil Works: Bunds, pump house, control room, and operator welfare facilities.
Strategic Impact
The upgraded depot will reinforce JNIA’s position as a regional aviation fuel hub, reducing aircraft turnaround times, improving supply reliability, and elevating Oilcom’s leadership in safe, high-quality aviation fuel handling.
